June bugs are MASSIVE AUGH.

I KNOW. One time our porch light was on, and there were at least 12 of them, probably more, outside banging against the walls of the house and the door and stuff. It was creepy.

Also known as the time last summer when I turned on the porch light so they would all land on the screen door, then spent my evening flicking them off the screen to see how many I could get stuck on their backs (total: a lot; they are super dumb?).

This looks a lot like my best friend growing up’s kitchen, minus the spiral staircase. She lived in this ancient house with all these cools nooks and crannies. It was awesome to explore as a little kid!

When you think ‘terrarium’, you probably remember some dusty glass case in the back of biology class, surviving despite attempts to sabotage it. The classic terrarium is housed in a ‘Wardian” case, named for the 19th century amateur biologist Dr. Nathaniel Ward. Out on a woodland walk one day in 1830, he gathered a moth pupa and slipped it into a bottle he happened to be carrying. Once home, he forgot about it, only to come upon it months later. He found no butterfly, but instead, a seedling fern had sprouted. And thus began a Victorian “fad” that has survived over decades.

Ah-mazing.

We actually have this episode on VHS! It’s got Vincent Price, and another episode with Alice Cooper on it. Strange pairing…
